US military planes have hit the Taliban positions in the captured Afghan city of Kunduz, said a NATO spokesman.
The attack marked the first US airstrikes to defend the city, as Afghan national forces launched a counterattack to try to retake the city, reported The Dawn.
A spokesman for the Nato-led coalition Colonel Brian Tribus said that US conducted an airstrike in Kunduz to eliminate a threat to coalition and Afghan forces operating in the vicinity of the Afghan city.
He did not elaborate on how many coalition forces troops were in the area.
