US National Security Adviser Susan Rice has told Pakistan to take steps to deal with the Haqqani network, as it is crucial for having better relations with Afghanistan as well as the US.

According to the Dawn, Rice is in Islamabad to finalise the agenda for Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's meeting with US President Barack Obama at the White House on October 22.

Rice said in a tweet that she encouraged Pakistan to "advance regional peace and stability".

Rice has conveyed Obama's invitation to Sharif to visit the White House in October to continue discussions.
