The Islamic State (IS) has set up training camps in eastern Libya and almost "a couple of hundred" fighters are being trained there, the head of the United States Africa command said.

General David Rodriguez said that the camps were at a very early stage and that the U.S. was watching them "carefully" to see how they develop, reported the BBC.

Libya has been embroiled in turmoil ever since Muammar Gaddafi was ousted in 2011. Several tribes, militias and political parties are fighting for power while some militants have pledged their allegiance to the IS.
