The army announced late on Tuesday that it has taken Uziar Baloch, the former chief of the defunct Peoples Amn Committee, in its custody.

Director General of the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor, in a tweet, said, Uzair Baloch was taken into military custody under the Pakistan Army Act, the Express Tribune reported.

He added that Uzair has been taken into custody on charges of espionage, for leaking leakage of sensitive security information to foreign intelligence agencies.

The Lyari gang war leader who has close ties to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was arrested by the Sindh Rangers last year during a search operation on the outskirts of Karachi.
