Manchester United football team manager Louis van Gaal was furious after striker Robin van Persie celebrated by taking of his shirt after scoring a last-minute equaliser against Chelsea in Sunday's Premier League clash.

Robin van Persie's equaliser deep into injury time gave Manchester United a point and kept Chelsea within range of their Premier League title rivals after a dramatic Old Trafford finale.

Didier Drogba's header in the 53rd minute looked to have extended Chelsea's lead at the top of the table to six points until a thunderous conclusion in front of the Stretford End, The Daily Star.

However, Van Persie rescued United with a last-ditch goal, but then got a ticking off from his boss for his extravagant celebrations.

Van Gaal was furious the striker was booked for taking off his shirt to celebrate his equaliser against table-topping Chelsea in the fourth minute of added-time.

Van Persie was scoring for United for only the third time this season, but he also picked up his third caution for his over-the-top antics. Van Gaal said that the striker did a stupid reaction after the goal, adding that one could be excited, but one does not have to pull of their shirt, as one knows it is a yellow card.

Van Persie's late, late goal came just after Branislav Ivanovic was sent off for a second booking for a foul on midfielder Angel Di Maria.

Chelsea remains four points clear of second-placed Southampton and, perhaps more significantly, six points ahead of last season's champions Manchester City, but this is a result that would almost have the after-taste of defeat, even though Chelsea's unbeaten run continues, the report added.
