Manchester United star Robin van Persie's future in the Old Trafford side has been put in further doubt after his name was reportedly omitted from a list of potential future captains of the club on their official website.
A feature on Manutd.com, entitled 'Reds' leadership credentials', examined the merits of five possible candidates to take the captainship from Serb Nemanja Vidic, who will leave the club at the end of the season.
According to Metro.co.uk, Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher and even David De Gea featured in the list, although the Dutch striker was ominously left off despite captaining the Netherlands and wearing the armband with distinction in his final season at Arsenal.
The report mentioned that the snub would only further increase speculation surrounding Van Persie's future, with reports suggesting that he remains unconvinced by David Moyes' management of the club.
