Vanessa Hudgens sign of love lands her in legal trouble

Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler's Valentine's Day celebration has landed the couple in legal trouble.

The 27-year-old actress and her boyfriend sparked off a criminal investigation after a vandalised rock near the Coconino National Forest showed up on Hudgens's Instagram account, reports E! Online.

All the drama started when the 'High School Musical' star shared a photo that featured the pair's names in a heart carved into a rock. While the picture has since been deleted, police was informed of the image and they have begun looking into the matter.

Sources reveal that there is a federal law that prohibits anyone from damaging natural surfaces or property of the United States. As the investigation is ongoing, no charges have been filed for either party.

If charged, authorities revealed that both Hudgens and Butler could face a misdemeanor. A judge would later decide their punishment that could be a fine up to 5,000 dollars or six months in jail.
