Vanessa Hudgens to play lead in Broadway's 'Gigi'

Vanessa Hudgens is coming to Broadway and is set to play the title role in the upcoming project 'Gigi.'

The 25-year-old 'High School Musical' actress, who would be starring in Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's production, said that since she had been doing musicals from an early age, it had been her "dream" to perform on Broadway, the Hollywood Reporter reported.

Hudgens added that she could not wait to be on stage and play the "glamorous" part, which was originally played by Audrey Hepburn in 1951 play based on Colette's 1945 novel of the same name.

The revival would be a new adaptation by British playwright Heidi Thomas, and would feature songs from the 1958's nine Oscar winning movie that were not included in its initial Broadway production.

Thomas said that she had had the imagination of "feisty and feline Gigi" in her mind for a long time and Hudgens finally made the character come to life.

The production, which would play at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., starting in January 2015, would be choreographed by Joshua Bergasse, and directed by Eric Schaeffer.
