Former England captain Michael Vaughan has called for England's right-hand batsman Joe Root to open in place of Nick Compton.

The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Vaughan, as saying that with Compton struggling to score because of basic technical flaws in his batting, Root should be sent in ahead of him because of his very sound batting technique.

Vaughan also claimed that Root minimizes risk with good bowling and batting technique, adding that he wants to see Root in place of Compton with Cook and Jonathan Trott as there is a dynamic force in the top three.
