Veteran politician Somen Mitra has rejoined the Congress Party after leaving the Trinamool Congress.
Mitra was handed a Congress Party flag and felicitated in front of a large number of Congress supporters by West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Pradip Bhattacharya.
The event took place at the Congress Party's state headquarters Indira Bhavan in Kolkata.
Congress general secretaries Ambika Soni and C.P. Joshi were present to welcome the 70-year-old Mitra. Two union ministers from the state, Deepa Dasmunshi and Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury, also attended the event.
Mitra resigned from his TMC Lok Sabha seat on January 15 after accusing the TMC of failing to keep its pre-poll promises after coming to power in the state.
Mitra had been with the TMC since 2008 and in 2009 was elected as the Lok Sabha representative of the Diamond Harbour area in South 24 Parganas District.
