The bureau chief of Syrian Arab News Agency, Dr. Waiel Awwad, on Sunday condemned the beheading of British aid worker David Haines by the Islamic State (IS) and called for eliminating the terrorist group's menace from the region.

"It is most unfortunate incident that has been happening. This is a condemnable act. He was doing humanitarian work and he was killed. But having said (that) I would say that he is one of those thousands of people who have been murdered , massacred, decapitated their heads by this terrorist organization which is creating a menace in the region," said Dr. Awwad.

"This is a monster which is growing and has to be tackled and eliminated, because people of this region have been suffering...," he added.

The Islamic State (IS) militants released a third video on Saturday, purportedly showing the execution of British aid worker David Haines.

Haines, an aid worker from Perth, was taken hostage in the village of Atmeh, in Syria, in March 2013. The 44-year-old had been helping French agency ACTED deliver humanitarian aid.

His execution comes hours after his family had made a direct appeal to IS to contact them on Friday.

IS, which also known as ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), had released a video on September 2 showing the beheading of American journalist Steven Sotloff, who was kidnapped in Syria in August 2013. Another American journalist, James Foley, was executed and a video was released on August 19.
