Extolling the importance of tourism in the North-Eastern states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that he wanted to make the world aware about the potential of Manipur.

"I recently visited Myanmar and the focus of discussion during bilateral talks was connectivity with Imphal. There is immense scope in field of tourism in North-East states. I want to work with you shoulder to shoulder for making the world aware about potential of Manipur," Prime Minister Modi said during the 'Sangai' Festival at the Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre here.

"Tourism is the only sector that employs a number of people with minimal investment. Tourism gives employment from an auto-rickshaw driver to a tea seller," he added.

Pointing out the importance of skill development for solving unemployment in the region, the Prime Minister said that the youth from North-East could be recruited in the Delhi Police.

"The youth here needs jobs and for that we need to give importance to skill development. That is what we are doing. Youth from Northeast could be recruited in Delhi Police. World should know how youth from Northeast can police Delhi," Prime Minister Modi said.

Hailing the sportsman spirit of the people of Manipur, the Prime Minister announced a sports university for the state.

"We decided that there will be a sports university in Manipur. Manipur has a big contribution in making India proud on the world stage. Sports is in the DNA in this land. There is sports and sportsman spirit both in Manipur," said Prime Minister Modi.

Prime Minister Modi also warned about the effect of drugs on the future generations.

"I feel very sad when I hear youth are taking to drugs. It is up to us- our future generations can't be ruined. This path is harmful," he said.
