Former Pakistani head coach Waqar Younis is reportedly set to mentor the nation's national team again after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made bowling coach Mohammad Akram selector and head coach of National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Media reports suggest that Younis would be the PCB's preferred choice for the role of Pakistan's head coach and the move to remove Akram from the team management has strongly indicated that the former pacer may get the post.
The PCB has already advertised for different coaching and supporting staff positions including the head coach post and the cut-off date to submit entries for the same is May 5, The Express Tribune reported.
An official who knows about the matter said that Younis, who has represented Pakistan in 87 Tests and 262 ODIs, looks closer than ever to rejoin Pakistan as head coach, adding that the former pacer has got all the ingredients that one wants in a coach.
The official said that Younis is a living legend of the game and has previous experience for the same post with Pakistan, adding that he would not be surprised if the former captain is made the head coach.
Speculations are rife that Younis has made it clear that he wants to assume charge with more responsibilities than just only managing the resources of national team, the report added.
