A public school teacher in Washington, who asked students to compare former United States President George W. Bush to Adolf Hitler, has reportedly hogged the limelight for her action.

D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson said in a Tweet on Wednesday that no curriculum required students to compare Bush with Hitler "in any way" and that the teacher and the district are deeply apologetic about the incident. Henderson also added that the teacher has been asked to apologize to the class, reported Fox News.

Marc Thiessen, who worked as Bush's speechwriter for years, said the teacher should be terminated since a person who can't tell the difference between George W. Bush and Adolf Hitler shouldn't be teaching children. He added that the incident did not demonstrate the teacher's political bias but "utter incompetence."

The McKinley Middle School teacher instructed students to compare and contrast Bush and Hitler as part of a unit on War and Peace. The assignment required students to determine how Bush, the 43rd U.S. President who was elected to two terms, compared to Hitler, who was responsible for committing a Holocaust that killed more than 6 million Jews.
