West Bengal Police on Thursday nabbed a suspected militant with fake Indian currency notes from North Dinajpur district.
Acting on a tip off, the police arrested an individual, identified as Mohammad Alauddin alias Abu Gafur, in Karandighi village of North Dinajpur district.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi said that fake currency notes worth 6,000 rupees as well as SIM cards of Bangladesh were recovered from his possession.
"We have arrested Mohammad Alauddin from Karandighi. We have got fake Indian currency notes, worth 6,000 rupees from him. He has been produced in the court and he has been remanded to police custody," he told media here today.
Reportedly, the arrested individual was suspected to be an operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), but the police refused to disclose any information on this stating that it could hinder further investigation in the case.
