Star striker Neymar struck a milestone goal as Brazil trounced Argentina 3-0 in their World Cup qualifying clash at the Mineirao Stadium here on Friday.

Brazil remained dominated throughout the crucial match, with midfielder Philippe Coutinho scoring the opener for his side in the 25th minute.

Just a few seconds after the half-time, Barcelona star Neymar netted his 50th international goal before Paulinho pulled one back for Brazil in the 58th minute to pile further misery on Argentina.

While Argentina's winless run in qualifying event have now extended to four matches, Brazil have won all their five games under new manager Tite.

The match also saw the return of Argentina star striker Lionel Messi from injury, while Sergio Aguero was left on the bench with Enzo Perez preferred in the starting XI.

Brazil will now lock horns with Peru, while Argentina desperately need a win when they host Colombia on November 16.

Elsewhere, Copa America champions Chile held Colombia to a goalless away draw despite the absence of Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez due to an injury. Second-placed Uruguay saw off Ecuador 2-1 in Montevideo.
