Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that his foreign policy does not believe in cowering to or staring at other nations', but looking into their eyes with confidence.
"Journalists asked me before elections- Modi ji what will your foreign policy be? They thought I'm not experienced enough. I use to say that when I will get the responsibility will see, but I assured them that we won't look down nor we will stare but will look into their(foreign nations) eyes. India is full of self-confidence and today we talk to other nations by looking at them at their level. Now. the other countries are thinking that if they get an opportunity, they would like to be India's partner," Prime Minister Modi said while addressing the Indian Diaspora at Singapore Expo.
Prime Minister Modi also asserted that Indian expatriates are valued across the globe and the world is looking at India with great faith but still Singapore has a lot to teach Indians.
"Today the world looks at India with great faith. Indian expats are valued across the globe. There is a lot that Singapore can teach us. One example is cleanliness. The good part is, the people of India have decided that they want a clean India. Mahatma Gandhi had said that if I have to choose between independence and cleanliness, I will choose cleanliness,"Modi said.
Prime Minister Modi also thanked Singaporean for celebrating the festival of Diwali for one week.
" 'Little India'(Singapore) celebrated and extended the festival of Diwali by one week. I thank all Singaporeans," he said.
"Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the whole world is one family. This is the reason why there is no environment of distrust against Indians. Singapore is an example of how in fifty years, a country can be taken to remarkable heights," Modi added.
