The West Bengal government on Tuesday announced that it would connect Left Wing Extremists (LWE) affected areas in three districts of the state with mobile phones and the internet.

According to reports, the initiative to connect the Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapur districts has been taken with a view to provide better policing, as well as to cater to the needs of the residents of the area.

The state government will reportedly set up around 100 mobile towers across the three districts, with BSNL being given the responsibility to complete the job within a year.
