J.K. Rowling has revealed that she actually based the disliked 'Harry Potter' character Dolores Umbridge on a teacher, who she really hated.
The character, which was played by Imelda Staunton in the fantasy film series, is portrayed as sweet on the outside but is actually a really vicious teacher, who bans Harry from playing Quidditch and forces him to write the words "I must not tell lies" on the back of his hand with his own blood, Stuff.co.nz reported.
The 49-year-old author wrote on her website Pottermore.com, that the Umbridge was based on a person "whom she had disliked intensely on sight," and who like the Harry Potter teacher had a "pronounced taste for twee accessories...(including) a tiny little plastic bow slide, pale lemon in color."
Rowling, who posted the essay and other new writing online as a Halloween in conjunction with the launch of 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' on the website, concluded the essay by saying that Dolores was one of the characters whom she purely disliked.
