Winston Churchill's last surviving child, Lady Mary Soames, has died at the age of 91, after suffering from a short illness.
According to the BBC, Mary was the youngest of the five children of the wartime prime minister and his wife Clementine.
British Prime Minister David Cameron, while offering his condolences on her death, described Mary as a wonderful, warm-hearted woman, who could always put others at ease and said that he and his wife Samantha felt privileged to know her.
Expressing grief on Lady Soames's demise, Cameron added that in the week of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, it will be remembered that she served her country in World War II and was an eye-witness to some of the most important moments in the country's recent history as she accompanied her father to key conferences.
Nicholas Soames, one of Mary's sons and the Conservative MP said that she was a truly remarkable and extraordinary woman, who led a very distinguished life.
