Winter is coming. I told you so': George RR Martin, JK Rowling, other novelists persevere to protest Donald Trump's win

Many novelists from around the world, including George RR Martin and JK Rowling have taken to social media to continue voicing their disappointment and concern over the US presidential election's outcome.

In a post on his social networking service 'LiveJournal,' 'A Game of Thrones' author George R.R. Martin described his current location as "Slough of Despond" and his current mood as "depressed."

"Over the next four years, our problems are going to get much, much worse. Winter is coming. I told you so," he wrote.

Rowling, who has in the past compared the president-elect to Lord Voldemort, the villain from her 'Harry Potter' series, tweeted prolifically about the results.

"We stand together. We stick up for the vulnerable. We challenge bigots. We don't let hate speech become normalised. We hold the line," she tweeted.

"Hey, I know I can't compare to the president elect. He has the deepest thoughts. So deep you'll need a big shovel to get at 'em. Bigly deep," she later sent another tweet on the social medium.

Other novelists who weighed in included Stephen King, Margaret Atwood, Judy Blume and Jodi Picoult.

"Dear Americans: It will be all right in the long run. (How long? We will see.) You've been through worse, remember," tweeted Atwood, author of 'The Blind Assassin.'

While American writer Jennifer Weiner wrote, "Telling kids, "Trump won" is like telling them you ate their Halloween candy except when they freak out you don't get to yell, "Kidding!"", author of 'The Fault in Our Stars' author John Green warned, "You reap what you sow."

"Want to change this country? Read a book. Read a book to your children. Tell your friends about a great book. Get off twitter. Now," tweeted Gary Shteyngart, American author born in Leningrad, USSR.

Judy Blume, who is known for children's and young adult fiction including 'Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret', posted picture of Trump with a background of red and white bold stripes.

"This will be my only tweet today. An American Tragedy," she captioned.

Carl Hiaasen sarcastically referred to the medical marijuana legalization in Florida and wrote, "Fla. approves medicinal pot just in time for Trump's election" because "Glaucoma outbreak begins" today.
