In a shocking incident, a woman sarpanch in Raipur's Mohda village was hacked to death by her brother and nephew who were enraged with her for performing the last rites of her mother.
The victim, Geeta, was performing a ritual related to the funeral on Thursday, when her brother Chetram and nephew Piyush fatally attacked her with an axe.
The culprits have been arrested by the local police.
"The mother's last rites were done by Geeta. They were three sisters and one brother and the mother was kicked out by her son 15 years ago. The mother had been living with Geeta", said Varun Dewta, In-charge, Siliyari police station, Raipur.
"There was some issue going on between the siblings regarding the land. As of now an FIR has been lodged under 302, 307 and 334," he added.
