A new study has revealed that women who fake orgasms are more likely to cheat on their partners.

The scientists, who looked at the orgasm frequency of 138 female and 121 male university students in relationships, wanted to see whether couples who were sexually happy were more likely to stay faithful, the Daily Star reported.

The couple in question had sex an average of three times a week, and it was found in the study that women had orgasms 61 percent of the time, compared to 70 percent of men.

Researchers also found that faking orgasms was more common among the women, as in almost a fifth of sexual encounters (18 percent), women said they faked an orgasm to spare their partner's feelings, while men faked it just one in 20 times.

Almost one in six of women questioned admitted they had cheated on their partner and the figure was higher for men - with more than a quarter (26 percent) admitting.

The study also found that men were more likely to stay with a partner who orgasmed consistently.

The findings were published in the influential American blog, The Psychology of Human Sexuality.
