The new director of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Andrew Strauss, has said that the new coach may not be appointed before the start of the Ashes in July.

Strauss who sacked Peter Moores after his appointment due to the team's dismal show, is yet to find his successor.

Strauss said he knew that the clock was ticking before the Ashes but they won't rush in, the BBC reported.

He is set to hold talks with Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie, who has been his favourite in the race for the job.

Strauss had earlier met former Australian opener Justin Langer who opted to remain with Western Australia.

Meanwhile, Paul Farbrace, who had been Moores' assistant, has been given the charge of the team for two-Test series against New Zealand.

The five-Test Ashes series against Australia will commence from July 8.
