World Bank President Jim Yong Kim on Monday announced to give an additional one billion US dollar fund to Bangladesh over the next two years as assistance for reducing malnutrition and stunting among children.
The announcement was made by him at a joint press briefing after holding a meeting with the Bangladesh Finance Minister AMA Muhith at the Finance Ministry.
The World Bank President lauded the efforts of Bangladesh for remarkable work in poverty alleviation.
Jim hoped that the International Development Association will also provide the highest amount of assistance to the Bangladesh in the next two years.
The World Bank has made a fresh commitment of $72 billion as mostly soft loans from the IDA for different countries across the globe, he added.
Last year Bangladesh had received $1.7bn aid from IDA, according to the Economic Relations Division.
