Outgoing Pakistani batsman Younis Khan will be coaching Afghanistan cricket team post his retirement, Afghanistan Cricket Board has confirmed.

Afghanistan Cricket Board chairman Atif Mashal, while speaking to Dawn, said, "Younis has agreed to coach the Afghan cricket team and the board is currently finalising the contract."

The 39-year-old, who is currently playing his final international Test match against West Indies, had earlier announced that he would retire from international cricket after the ongoing three-match Test series.

Earlier this month, Younis became the first Pakistani batsman to score 10000 Test runs.

Younis, playing in his 116th test match, smashed five boundaries and a six in his gritting knock of 58 (132 balls) in the first Test against West Indies.

Younis' career batting average of 52.84 is also the best by any Pakistani batsman and the third best by any batsman from Asia.

In January, Younis also became the first cricketer in Test history to score centuries in 11 countries when he smashed his 34th hundred in the third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), tying him with Sunil Gavaskar, Mahela Jayawardene and Brian Lara in the all-time list at sixth place.

The Afghanistan cricket team has previously been coached by the likes of Inzamam-ul-Haq, Rashid Latif and Kabir Khan.
