German carmaker Volkswagen has released an all-new online teaser image of the upcoming eighth-generation Passat saloon. This is another addition to the whole teaser campaign for the soon-to-be-launched 2015 Passat. Before its debut in the flesh at Paris Motor Show last year, the luxury saloon will make its global unveiling at an online event on July 3rd. Covered with a thin veil, the image hints at the sportier stance of the eighth generation Passat. It also provides a clear glance of the saloon's angular LED-infused headlamps and DRLs (daytime running lights).
The sporty front fascia, in the most understandable way, has contoured bonnet, smoothly integrated front grille that meets the headlights and flared wheel arches. Presence of an easily visible prominent character line from the A-pillar that goes right upto the rear of the car, adds up to the over-all masculinity of the saloon. And the lines in the lower borders of the headlights in a quite similar to the models from the sibling brands Skoda and Audi.
Based on the Volkwagen's famous MQB platform, the car now comes with a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs, resulting into a minor decrease in length but increased space inside the cabin. Overall the new Passat is now 2 mm shorter and weighs 85 kgs. less as compared to its predecessor. And this weight reduction ultimately resulting into improved fuel efficiency and reduction in carbon emissions.
As per reports, other new features to arrive in the saloon includes the VW's latest automatic park assist system, traffic-jam assist, anti-dazzle high beams, and global-first trailer assist feature. While the cockpit will feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, high-end infotainment system and a 360-degree camera system.
Under the hood, Passat will offer a revised engine range, including an all new 2.0-litre four-cylinder Bi-turbo diesel mill, rated at 237bhp and 500Nm of peak torque. The unit comes geared with a seven-speed gearbox which transmits power to all four wheels through the innovative 4MOTION system. Another engine option is a plug-in hybrid option combining 1.4 TSI unit and electric motor for a combined output of 208bhp and 400Nm of maximum torque.
The eighth generation Volkswagen Passat will hit the European streets in 2015, and we expect it to arrive in India after that.
