Fresh renderings of the 2017 Swift have surfaced, giving us a glimpse into what the production version might actually look like. A test-mule was spotted recently, and reports suggest that the new Swift will be produced in Maruti's new facility in Gujarat, alongside the Brezza.
Now that we know the Swift is around the corner, here are answers to questions that might arise:
Will it get the 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol motor?
Will there be an all-new Swift DZire as well?
Oh, you bet! The current DZire is an absolute darling of the masses that outsells its competition put together. We expect the compact sedan to borrow design cues from the new generation and take on the new kids on the block, a la Ameo.
Can we expect a new diesel engine?
Nope! In all probability, the Swift will soldier on with the current, tried and tested 1.3-litre diesel engine. The motor currently puts out 75PS / 190Nm, and that is expected to remain unchanged. The bonus, of course, is that the Swift diesel will get an automated manual transmission (AMT).
What features are likely to be on offer?
The new generation is likely to get projector headlamps, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, steering mounted controls, a multi-information display and a lot more. Also, since safety norms are getting stricter by the day, we expect the Swift to feature dual airbags and ABS across trims as well.
What about a Swift Sport?
The chances of a proper Swift Sport with a 1.4-litre turbo petrol looks highly unlikely. Prices for that particular car will be well over Rs 10 lakh, which very few customers would be willing to pay. That said, with Fiat bringing in the Abarth and Volkswagen getting the GTI, we hope someone at Maruti reads this and sends some hot-blooded Swifts our way.
