Ashok Leyland and Nissan have a joint venture, wherein both the companies come together and share their technology to produce new vehicles. The first product from this JV was the Dost, and now Ashok Leyland has introduced the Stile, which is a redesigned version of the Nissan Evalia.
The Stile caters to a different set of audience as it as Ashok Leyland states it to be a 7-8 seater people transport vehicle for urban conditions. Ashok Leyland calls the Stile as a multi-purpose vehicle to run it as hotel shuttles, taxi services, ambulances, panel vans, courier services, inter-city and intra-city travel.
The Stile was on display at the 2012 Auto Expo had Ashok Leyland's 1.5-litre engine, but now the company has switched over to the K9K engine that also powers the existing Evalia. The power of the Stile is 75bhp when compared to the 85 on the Evalia. The Stile’s engine carries the badge Diet to make it differentiate from the 1.5-litre engine that powers the Dost. The CNG variant and the diesel engine both will be available in two and third rows seating options.
There aren’t many differentiating factors between the Evalia and the Stile, but Ashok Leyland has tailored the vehicle for Indian requirements. For instance, it gets a lid on the glove box, there is a rear seat AC vent and it gets sliding windows. The company hasn’t announced the cost of the Stile, but it will be priced less than the Evalia, as Nissan enjoys a large premium over the Ashok Leyland badge.
Also, the Ashok Leyland’s Stile is available with fatter tyres with an optional tyre’s surface area of 185, apart fro the 165. The Stile is also available with captain seats in the second row and the quality of the materials is the same as the Nissan Evalia. We can soon expect the Nissan Evalia to come with the same features in its next upgrade.
