Audi A4 Celebrates 20 Years of Existence

Audi celebrated 20 years of existence of its highest selling model in the line-up - Audi A4. The main plant in the home country - Ingolstadt has been producing this most successful luxury sedan from the ‘Four Rings’ manufacturer from the past 20 years and over six-million units have been sold so far! Audi A4 is now in its fourth-gen avatar and is sold worldwide including India. First-gen A4 went to sale in November 1994 replacing Audi 80 Series.

“When the Audi A4 superseded the successful Audi 80 series 20 years ago, it became a bestseller soon after its launch. It was the fastest production ramp-up in the company’s history. The foundations were laid by our employees’ commitment and the excellent preparations made for the new model series,” stated Dr. Hubert Waltl, Board of Management Member for Production at AUDI AG. “The sporty A4 family is the heart of the Audi brand still today, and is extremely popular with our customers around the world.”

The fifth generation of Audi is coming next year and Audi says currently, the Ingolstadt is getting modded for the series production of new A4 - the fourth-gen that is also on sale in India, is present since 2007 and German auto major has sold more than 2 million of this standalone. Apart from the German manufacturing plant A4 is also locally manufactured in China, India and Indonesia.

 Audi’s Ingolstadt plant Director Peter Kössler, where the sedan has been in series production since 20 years, stated, “The 20-year success story of the Audi A4 is due above all to our production team. With their specialist expertise and great motivation, our employees master series launches with great success and produce premium automobiles of the highest quality – day in, day out,”
