German automaker BMW has released a 2.0-liter four cylinder version of its 7–Series luxury sedan in the Chinese and Turkish markets. The powertrain is shared with the company’s relatively smaller sedan, 330i and its subsidiary’s hot hatchback, the Mini Cooper John Cooper Works. This particular powerplant is only available on the entry-level trim of the luxury sedan and dons the moniker “730i”. This petrol unit has been tweaked to produce 254bhp as compared to the 248bhp that it produces in the standard 330i. The power plant comes coupled to the company’s eight-speed automatic gearbox.
BMW 730i is a RWD luxury sedan, which features an acceleration time of 0-100kmph in under 6.2seconds. This acceleration time is exclusive to the short wheelbase versions of the car, as the long wheelbase models are 0.1 seconds slower in comparison.
The German automaker is also working on a 600+bhp version of its luxury sedan, which will incorporate a 6.6-liter petrol V12 unit in its top-of-the-range 760Li models. The V12 powerplant will be borrowed from the company’s other subsidiary, Rolls Royce. This 7–series variant will make its international debut sometime later this year. The company has not put out any official word pertaining to the launch of its entry level 730i variants in any markets other than those of China and Turkey.
For now, BMW will only be showcasing the 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder diesel and 4.4-liter, V8 petrol variants of its long wheelbase, all new 7-Series at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo, which will be held from 5th-9th of February in Greater Noida region.
