Custom built F12 TRS debuts in the Ferrari Cavalcade 2014

A one-off custom built F12 TRS made its public debut in Sicily as part of the 90 car convoy in the third edition of the Ferrari Cavalcade 2014. The F12 TRS is a two-seater, convertible sports barchetta based on the Ferrari F12. The car is a modern day take on the legendary 1957 250 Testa Rossa. Sticking to its one-off Ferrari spirit, the F12 TRS is the product of Ferrari’s now-classic approach of creating an integrated design. The custom F12 TRS the same performance figures as the F12 Berlinetta. The sprint to 100kmph from a standstill takes just 3.1 seconds, and 200kmph comes up in the next 5.0 seconds. The numbers can be attributed to the massive 730bhp of maximum power and peak torque of 690 Nm at 9,000 rpm from its 6,262cc V12 engine.

The typical sharp Ferrari nose and aggressively sculpted forms flow back over the bonnet. Then a low, wraparound windscreen forms a long dark band of glass in contrast to the car’s exterior. A concept inspired as much by the front-engined Ferrari sports cars of the 1950s as our more recent mid-engined berlinettas is the visible V12 engine’s signature red cylinder heads through a window in the engine lid. The aerobridge, which came first on the F12berlinetta, has been modified for this car, and results in a sculptural design that runs back from the flanks along the entire length of the vehicle. The rear design denotes an evolution of the T-shaped graphic, characterising the F12’s truncated tail.  It is influenced a tiny bit by the cabin shape with long fuselage fairings running behind the headrests into the rear spoiler. A ramp runs from the central tunnel, linking interior and exterior and creating a longitudinal aerodynamic channel to deliver an innovative Venturi effect completed by a vent under the spoiler.

The cockpit is light and pared-back to the barest driving essentials, creating a sense of sportiness with no concessions to comfort. Some of the toggles such as air conditioning, for instance, have been cut back, while the glove compartment, central air vents, mats, audio system, window controls and odds-and-ends holders have all been omitted. Most of the materials used aboard, such as black matt carbon-fibre, leather and Alcantara,  are technical, while the same multi-layer red paint developed specifically for the exterior adorns the central tunnel and the door panels. The new bodywork colour was developed using multi-layer and micalised paint which in fact has been inspired by the traditional Rosso Corsa.
