Ford launches the next-gen Ford Figo (known as 'KA' globally) in Brazil; The Ford KA starts at 35,390 BRL (INR 9.53 lakh) in the soccer crazy nation. But in India prices are expected to remain similar to the outgoing model. The next-gen Ford Figo will come along with a compact sedan that was showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The duo will come early next.
Features inside-out
- The hatch gets 'Blue-Oval' company's second iteration of the Kinetic design philosophy – Kinetic 2.0.
- The front swept back headlamp and Aston-Martin-esque grille are the highlight at the front.
- Side profile is similar to Fiesta-EcoSport territory. It rides on 14-inch radial while the top-end offers 15-inch alloys.
- Inside the car, the dashboard design is borrowed from the Fiesta while the central console is almost identical.
- The vehicle features Ford's SYNC voice controlled system while the AppLink (smartphone App integration) and Emergency Assistance is likely on the cards. All these features are segment-first!
- The car in Brazil also features electronic stability control, traction control and hill-hold but these features will certainly not make it to the Indian model.
Dimensionally
The new hatch has grown a little with overall length of 3.89m compared to the current Figo's 3.79m. The height rose 1.52m compared to current one's 1.42m. The new hatch is slightly more spacious, already Figo is one of the spacious hatch in its category. Expect improved ground clearance on the upcoming model.
Engine
The next-gen KA/Figo gets a new 1.0L TiVCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing) naturally aspirated engine (non-turbo) petrol engine which gathers 85bhp (when powered with ethanol in Brazil) at 6500rpm and 105Nm of max torque at 4500rpm. It is mated to a five-speed manual transmission as automatic is not available in Brazil. In India, next-gen Figo might get an automatic as most of the rivals possess.
The vehicle will also get a diesel in our country as 90 percent of the sales comes from diesel trims. The 1.4 liter TDCI of the current generation Figo is likely to get replaced either with the 1.5 liter TDCI from EcoSport or with a completely new unit. The information on diesel engine is still cloudy while the petrol will certainly be the above mention 1.0L TiVCT.
