India’s second largest car manufacturer, Hyundai Motors India Limited flagged off the second leg of its ‘Happy Move – Save Our Heritage’ initiative in Delhi on Tuesday, informed a press release. The 11-day programme will witness participation from more than 100 volunteers, including 80 from South Korea.
In association with the Archaeological Survey of India, the initiative commenced with an awareness drive, lasting till July 21, encompassing the heritage sites of Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, Old Fort and Hauz Khas. The volunteers will undertake maintenance activities to preserve the amenities and gardens, and will conduct awareness drives to educate visitors about the value of these monuments.
As a part of the initiative, the volunteers will also participate in a School Contact Programme at four Delhi-Tamil association (DTEA) Senior Secondary Schools in Lodhi Estate, RK Puram, INA Market and Mandir Marg, added the release. In order to spread the message among young students, activities like premises cleaning, school wall designing, maintenance of gardens and design competitions have been planned.
On the occasion, HMIL’s senior vice president (sales and marketing) Rakesh Srivastava termed this campaign as a means to reach out to masses on the significance of our heritage. “‘Happy Move’ is a step to ‘Save Our Heritage’ by sensitizing the people to understand the value of our heritage in our lives for which, we are conducting maintenance and awareness programs at four heritage sites of national significance,” he said.
Hyundai had organised the first phase of the initiative in January, earlier this year. A different quartet of heritage sites, including Safdarjung Tomb and Firoz Shah Kotla, was identified for preservation. Alongside, the program had also reached out to over 2,300 students across four Delhi schools, in the vicinity of these monuments, through the School Contact Program.
