Hyundai today made global debut of its India bound ix25 compact SUV in China, after revealing the concept version at 2014 Beijing Motor Show followed by showcasing the production version at Chengdu Motor Show couple of months later. Prices in China starts from 119,800 RMB (approximately Rs. 11.95 lakh) to 179,800 RMB (nearly Rs. 17.93 lakh).

However, Indian prices will be a tad lower than the Chinese ones and will be in vicinity of its rivals - Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano. Furthermore, Hyundai India has also started testing ix25 in the country, launch is expect in the first half of next year.

The ix25 features Hyundai Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy and looks like a baby Santa Fe. The compact SUV features day-time-running-LEDs, projector headlamps, LED tail lamps and diamond cut alloys.

On the inside, dashboard also borrows styling cues from the big brother Santa-Fe. On the feature list, ix25 sports Hyundai BlueLink touch screen infotainment system (navigation, reverse parking cam), automatic air conditioning system, etc.

In China, Hyundai ix25 is available with a 1.6 and 2.0 liter natural aspirated petrol engine. The 1.6 liter generates 122.8bhp @ 6300rpm and 150.7Nm of peak torque at 4,850rpm; similar to the one we get in Verna. A more powerful 2.0 liter petrol gathers 158bhp at 6,500rpm and 192Nm of torque at 4,800rpm.

The compact SUV comes with both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains and features 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Speaking about the Indian specification, the ix25 in India is reportedly borrowing its powertrain from Verna. So on the diesel front, expect a 1.6 liter or 1.4 liter CRDI unit along with most likely 1.6 L VTVT just like its Chinese counterpart.
