Isuzu isn't a household name in our country just yet. However, the Japanese automaker is well-known to have developed the engine for the humble Hindustan Ambassador and a wide range of commercial vehicles as well.
Isuzu showcased the D-Max V-Cross at the 2016 Auto Expo. The pick-up truck or 'Adventure Utility Vehicle', as the manufacturer likes to call it, is eligible to be registered as a private vehicle, unlike the older generation. It will be produced at Isuzu's new plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Sources tell us that the pick-up will be launched at an introductory price of Rs 12.51 lakh (ex-showroom). Pre-launch bookings have commenced, for a token amount of Rs 50,000.
The double-cab pick-up follows an aggressive design tone and features twin-barrel projector headlamps, flared wheel arches, 16-inch wheels and a loading bay large enough to accommodate whatever you throw at it. The interior can house five occupants with ease and has plenty of car-like features to keep them comfortable as well. The list includes a six-way adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system and steering-mounted controls.
The Isuzu houses a 2.5-litre diesel engine that produces 138PS of power and 320Nm of peak torque. It also gets a shift-on-the-fly 4WD knob that lets the driver switch between 2WD and 4WD on the go. Safety features include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and dual airbags.
We think the V-Cross is a fun alternative to regular SUVs. Would you buy one over a Scorpio or a compact SUV like the Duster? Let us know through the comments section below!
