After introducing V40 Cross Country Crossover, Volvo India is all prepped up to launch the upgraded V40 hatch tomorrow. The facelift version gets its styling cues from the V40 Cross Country Crossover but being a standard hatch it loses the rugged characteristics and body plastic cladding. When introduced, Volvo V40 will lock horns with other premium hatchbacks like the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, BMW 1 Series, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and with compact sedan A3 from Audi. Let’s have a clear look on what to expect from Volvo V40 hatchback.

Exterior

  • Expect the exterior less rugged in nature
  • Unlike the front black plastic cladding offered in V40 Crossover, the hatch gets a cleaner front profile
  • Volvo V40 also ditches front and rear skid plates, side body cladding and roof rails
  • The hatch gets a lowered ground clearance compared to its Crossover sibling
  • Front profile will get Auto Bending Headlamps with LED daytime running lights and rides on 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels

Interior and Comfort Features

  • The interiors are expected to be similar to the Cross Country
  • It’s expected that the hatch will flaunt features like leather upholstery, Adaptive Digital Display Console, climate control system, panoramic roof and powered front seats with memory settings
  • On safety front, the hatch might get standard safety features like - Laser Assisted Automatic Braking, Dynamic Stability & Traction Control (DSTC), Turn-with Steering Lights (ABL - Adaptive Bending Lights) and Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS) along with multiple airbags, ABS and others.

Under the hood

Powertrains are too borrowed from the Crossover Sibling

  • The hatch will share the engine spec with the Crossover as it will be offered with the same D3 diesel and T4 petrol
  • The gasoline T4 is 1.6-liter GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine good enough to churn a max power of 180bhp with max torque of 240Nm
  • The engine is mated to six-speed automatic transmission which allows the hatch to mark 0 to 100 in mere 8.5 seconds
  • Also the five-cylinder turbodiesel with start/stop technology gives an output of 150bhp and peak torque of 350Nm

Price Range

Since the Crossover was launched at Rs 27 Lac (Ex-Showroom, Mumbai), we expect the hatch to be in the price range of Rs 26 to 28 lac.
