Mahindra & Mahindra, one of the biggest victim of Supreme Court’s recent ruling (concerning diesel vehicles), has started refunding the booking amount. This is happening in the backdrop of temporary halt placed on registration of diesel vehicles for a period of three months. The ban is applicable on cars having engine capacity of 2,000cc or more in Delhi.
The Indian carmaker is giving back the amount taken for booking of cars like Xylo, XUV500 and Scorpio. It is probably the worst hit company by the ban and has admitted that it will affect approximately 2% of the total monthly sales.
Taking cognisance of the ban and its consequences, Mahindra is expected to promote its rest models which are unaffected by the ban. The company might provide attractive offers with its e2o, Verito and TUV300. It is also going to launch KUV100 mini crossover by mid of January.Supreme court will have the next hearing on January 5, 2016 where it will be deliberating on imposing “diesel tax”. If passed, all the diesel cars operating in Delhi have to pay this tax regardless of the engine capacity of the car. Although appreciated by environmentalists all over, the decision came under heavy fire from the automotive world.
The national capital has become a hot-spot in Indian automobile industry since Delhi government came up with odd-even formula to curb pollution. AAP government has even announced that schools will remain closed for the trial period from January 1, 2016 to January 15, 2016.
