Maruti Suzuki launches DZire diesel automatic at INR 8.39 Lacs

Maruti Suzuki has launched the much-anticipated Auto Gear Shift (AGS) version of its Swift DZire compact sedan. Priced at INR 8.39 Lacs for the top-end ZDi variant, DZire is carmaker’s first diesel and fourth AGS-equipped model. 

Dzire AGS gets the same AMT unit supplied by Magnetti Marelli which does duty in the likes of the Celerio and Wagon-R. The AGS technology comes equipped with an Intelligent Shift Control Actuator that includes an actuator and controller for regulating clutch and shift operations. These components synchronise clutch’s control and smooth-ens the gearshifts. This also optimises ECU calibration, and shortens the gear shifting time, as compared to the regular automatic gearboxes.

The engine will continue to be the same 1.3-litre DDiS engine which puts out 75PS and 190 NM peak torque. According to the carmaker, DZire with AGS will deliver a fuel efficiency of 26.59 Kmpl, same as that of its manual counterpart.   

Commenting on the launch, R S Kalsi, Executive Director Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Auto Gear Shift, a two-pedal technology, enables customers to drive with comfort and convenience, especially in congested city conditions. This convenience is available to them at an attractive price, without any compromise on fuel efficiency. Maruti Suzuki introduced the AGS technology in India with Celerio and we currently offer it in Alto K10 and WagonR also. It has been very well accepted by customers. We are delighted to now offer Auto Gear Shift technology in DZire diesel as well.”

“DZire, one of India’s most successful cars ever, will become even more attractive with the convenience of Auto Gear Shift technology,” he added.

DZire AGS is only available in the top end ZDi variant and will essentially go up against the Tata Zest, which was the only diesel automatic compact sedan available in the country before this.
