Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class launched in India; priced from INR 31.50 Lacs

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the much anticipated CLA-Class in the country with a starting price tag of INR 31.50 Lacs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Being the cheapest luxury saloon from Mercedes' stable, it will primarily go up against the cheapest Audi in the country, the A3 saloon.

The German car manufacturer has already launched the CLA's performance-oriented version, the CLA45 AMG last year. And like its AMG version, the regular CLA is also based on the familiar MFA (Mercedes Front-Wheel Drive Architecture) platform, that already underpins all the front-wheel drive products from the brand's portfolio currently available in the country, including the A-, B- and the GLA-Class. 

Mercedes has introduced the CLA-Class with both petrol and diesel engine options, unlike some of its offerings, which were initially offered with petrol power units only. The new saloon comes with two engine options, namely a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.1 litre diesel. The turbocharged 4-pot petrol mill puts out about 183 bhp at 5500 rpm and 300Nm of torque between 1200-1400rpm, and is quick enough to keep an enthusiast happy. While the 4-cylinder common rail direct injection unit pushes out 135 bhp between 3600-4400 rpm and a maximum torque of 300 Nm between 1600-3000 rpm. Transmission duty is handled by the 7G-DCT dual clutch gearbox, currently doing duty in almost all the Merc's offerings. 

 

The first 100 CLAs will arrive in India via the CBU (Complete Built Unit) route, while the rest will follow the CKD (Complete Knocked Down) route.

• CLA 200 Sport (Petrol) : INR 35 Lacs
• CLA 200 CDI Style (Diesel) : INR 31.50 Lacs
• CLA 200 CDI Sport (Diesel) : INR 35.90 Lacs
