Rolls-Royce Dawn Launching Tomorrow

As opulent as the Queen's palace, and probably just as expensive. Say hello to the Rolls-Royce Dawn that will break cover tomorrow in India. This ultra-luxurious convertible is the second of its kind in the British automaker's portfolio, following in the footsteps of the Phantom Drophead Coupe. 

Rolls-Royce insists that the Dawn isn't just a Wraith with the roof tucked away. Up to 80 per cent of body panels used are unique to the convertible. The design, as expected, is bespoke - with clean lines and presence that befits the mammoth proportions. Signature elements, such as the large vertical grille up front, the Spirit of Ecstacy and the suicide doors all find a spot on the Dawn. The interiors can put most luxury hotels to shame and features a blend of fine leather and wood. Of course, the Dawn can be customised to suit the owner's tastes and preferences. 

 

The convertible is powered by a 6.6-litre, twin turbo V12 motor that develops 571PS and 780Nm; that wafts the occupants from a dead halt to 100 kmph in a smidge under five seconds. It gets every creature comfort you can ask for, including adaptive cruise control, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with touchpad control and satellite-aided transmission. 

The convertible can be termed as the spiritual successor to the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn that debuted in 1952. Only 28 hand-built examples of the Rolls were made, each unique in its own way. The talking point in the new Dawn, of course, is the fabric roof that can be done away with in just 22 seconds, and up to speeds of 50kmph. Rolls-Royce says that with the roof up, the cabin of the Dawn is as silent as the Wraith coupe. That's a tall claim for a convertible, but considering it is Rolls-Royce - we're sure it is true. 

The 2+2 seater is bound to be among the most expensive convertibles on sale in India. What's the sticker price going to be like? Well, as much as a sea-facing apartment in Mumbai is my guess. Thankfully, though, someone who does have one of these parked in his garage, has the sea-facing apartment anyway.
