The car which is attributed with Mahindra’s entry into the SUV segment, added yet another feather to its cap. Mahindra Scorpio has achieved a cumulative sale of 5 lakh units. Partial credit for the same goes to its designers who ensured the design matches the pace of time and brought two updates within a span of 13 years. The car has been able to register an average annual sale of 48,000 units.

The car is offered in 12 variants smartly divided into 2WD, AWD, MT, and AT options and is even aiming market outside India. Company has worked upon to reduce the weight of the car and introduce new features. While the 2.5 litre diesel engine generates 75 hp with 200 Nm torque, the 2.2 litre gives 120 hp and 280 Nm.
With the recent increase in the competition in its segment, the need to modify and introduce additional features in the car became a necessacity. While SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Ford EcoSport have been able to hamper the sales of Scorpio to some extent, the car is re-energised with the recent changes and looks more composed to counter its rivals.

Mahindra is also working with Ssangyong, its South Korean subsidy, to introduce a new petrol turbo engine of 1.6 or 2 litre so as to overpower the now competitive segment. Although the expectations with this model are high, it will take the company 3-5 years to launch this version.
