Tata’s highly anticipated hatchback offering will be launching sometime next month. The car recently received its all new moniker ‘Tiago’ as its previous title seems somewhat insensitive to the victims suffering from Zika virus outbreak, which recently hit parts of South and Central America. The “Zippy car” will be introducing a plethora of new and innovative features to segment, in which it will compete with the likes of Hyundai i10 and Maruti Celerio, amongst others.
Making its debut in Tiago will be Tata’s Revotorq engine, picked out of the company’s line of new, in-house developed range of powerplants. The 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder powerplant churns out the a maximum power output of 70PS and 140Nm of peak torque. Tata will offer the petrol variants with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder 85PS Revotron unit, which produces a peak torque of 114Nm. The engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, however, it is also expected that the automaker will introduce an AMT variant of its hatchback at a later stage of the car’s life cycle.
The driver can also select from two drive types viz. City and Eco. Some of the highlights of the host of segment first features that Tiago will be introducing include Juke Car and Navigation app. The former allows the occupants to share, access and alter playlists, which is shared off from a common device via hotspot wirelessly. Facilitating the operations of Juke car app will be an eight speaker Harman-developed sound system. This relatively impressive package is expected to make its way to you, while featuring a price tag that falls somewhere starts around Rs. 3.75 lacs.
