It is a well known fact that the popularity of sub-4 metre segment in the Indian car market is growing at a brisk pace. Despite being a slowdown, the sub-4 metre segment is one which has recorded positive sales in the market. At the 12th Edition of Delhi Motor Show, carmakers are coming with their compact SUVs and sedans to make their mark in the hot sub-4 metre segment. Japanese carmaker Toyota has unveiled the Etios Cross, while the Italian auto-major Fiat has presented the Avventura concept.
Interestingly, the bookings of the Etios Cross have already been kickstarted, while the deliveries will be made by the May’14. On the other hand, Fiat presented the Avventura crossover as a concept, however it looks like closer to its production and the company could make its entry to Indian market anytime. Like Volkswagen Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross and Fiat Avventura are based on Etios and Punto, respectively.
The Toyota Etios Cross is being offered in both petrol and diesel versions- a 1.5L & 1.2L petrol and a 1.4L D-4D diesel engine. When it comes to design, the Etios Cross looks more rugged than its hatchback sibling. It features a grille guard, distinguished side cladding, stylish diamond cut alloys, bold front grille, dynamic rear cladding with badging & roof spoiler, fog lamps with integrated turn indicators, ORVMs with turn indicators and others. Inside the cabin, the crossover has piano black interiors, sporty seat fabric with white stitch & logo, 2-DIN Audio with Bluetooth, USB, AUX-in & Remote, Audio control on leather wrapped steering wheel.
Based on the Punto hatchback, the Avventura crossover has a tail-gate mounted spare wheel with the “Avventura” badge embossed on it and a handle for a better grip. It also features lot of cladding along with larger wheels, roof rails and higher ground clearance, which ultimately turns into an aggressive looking car.
With the introduction of these two cars, the competition in the growing SUV segment is getting furious. It will be interesting to see how these cars will do against the likes of Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and others.
