Since its launch in 2012, the Toyota GT86 has revitalised Toyota's reputation for building cars that are all about the pure pleasure of driving. The concept of getting back the front engine and rear wheel drive layout back was a decision made by the Japanese automaker to make a coupe of the enthusiasts. It isn’t just an efficient car but it is also fun to drive. The boxer engine is a four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine that reduces the centre of gravity for the car. The tyres of the GT86 are as thin as that on the Prius, to reduce its carbon footprint.
Toyota’s Racing Development team has built the GT 86 TRD. As of this new performance edition of the Coupe, only 250 examples will be available and these will be equipped with genuine design and performance features from TRD (Toyota Racing Development), one of the world's most accomplished and successful after market engineering businesses.
These items are all in addition to GT86's established equipment specification, which includes HID headlamps, front fog lamps, limited slip differential, Smart Entry and Start, dual-zone climate control, analogue dials and meters, drilled aluminium pedals, sports seats, scuff plates, cruise control and the Toyota Touch multimedia system.
GT86 will have official TRD parts have been used to create a specific production model grade. The Toyota GT86 TRD created a new halo model for the 2+2 coupe range. Both six-speed manual and automatic versions will be available, in a choice of two colours: Pearl White and GT86 Black.
The focus is on sports styling, but not at the cost of GT86's essential performance and handling character. The package includes 18-inch cast TF6 alloys, deep front and side skirts, a rear bumper spoiler and a fast-response quad-exhaust system with a rear diffuser to increase stability. The TRD touches also extended to a branded radiator cap and fuel filler cover, while inside the car there is a new TRD gear shift lever.
Toyota had previously also introduced the GT86 TRD for the Europe market for the model year 2013 and this year they have added enhancements that the 2014 model year received. One of the few rare cars liked by majority of the media and market that was first tapped by Toyota for such a segment.
The Scion, which is a sub-brand from Toyota for the north American has already got the GT 86, the Subaru also rebadges and sells the GT 86 and soon we shall this design to be badged as a Lexus too.
