Volkswagen has just launched the updated Jetta in India. Priced from INR 13.87 Lacs (ex.showroom), the sedan is not a new generation model, but only a facelift with minor updates inside-out.

The most prominent changes on the new Jetta are upfront. Its front fascia now looks a lot like its elder brother- Passat, incorporating the similar three-slat chrome front radiator grille and tweaked bumper. The Bi-Xenon headlamp units with brand’s Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) and a set of the new L-shaped daytime running lights(only in the top-end trim) also makes its way to the refreshed avatar. While the rear receives a new bumper and re-designed LED taillights.

On the inside, the most easily evident revisions are in the quality and finish of the cockpit, which includes new upholstery, piano black trim, 3-spoke flat bottom steering wheel, updated centre console and touchscreen infotainment system.

The engine options on the new Jetta remain the same. The petrol variants will continue to be powered with the 122 bhp- 1.4-litre TSI mill, while the 140 bhp- 2.0-litre TDi units powers the diesel trims.  Even the gearbox choices have been left untouched, and a 6-speed manual and dual-clutch automatic (DSG) transmission (diesel only) will continue to transfer power to the front wheels.

Speaking at the launch of the new Jetta, Mr. Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said “With the introduction of the new Jetta, we once again underline our commitment to the Indian market. We are committed to offering some of the safest, best-built, best-performing cars in our international line-up to the discerning Indian customer, and the Jetta is a brilliant example of that. It’s a best-of-the-breed Volkswagen that features class-leading performance, driving dynamics, build quality and safety. For premium-segment car buyers who insist on getting the best, we’re sure you’ll be very happy once you experience the new Jetta at one of our dealerships.”

The Jetta facelift competes against the likes of Skoda Octavia, Renault Fluence, Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla Altis.
