Volkswagen India is planning to upgrade its existing 1.5-litre TDi mill. The updated powerhouse is likely to be employed by Volkswagen’s to-be-launched car, Ameo. Eventually, the automaker plans to replace the existing engine with the updated one, throughout its lineup.
A senior official while talking to Overdrive, on the sidelines of Skoda new Superb launch, said that the German group is working on updating its 1.5TDi motor. The mill is currently employed in the Polo as well as Vento. It generates 89 bhp in the former and 104 bhp in the latter. After the tweaks, it is anticipated that the power delivery capacity will increase by approximately 2 bhp and the peak torque will increase by 10 Nm. Slight improvement in fuel efficiency is also expected with mileage likely to increase by 7%.
The official, who did not wished to be named, also apprised that the new mill will follow the same BS-IV standards. He clarified that the company always aims to reduce the amount of pollutant particles emitted, but is content with level four norms, for now. It is worth noting that the Indian government is pushing for implementation of BS-VI norms throughout the country by 2020.
The German automaker recently revealed a facelift for its hatchback, Up!. The car was awarded with the ‘World Car of the Year award’ in the year 2012 and showcases various differences in the upgraded model. It also teased the images of its T-Cross compact SUV concept some time back. The car is expected to surface at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show.
