Couple of days back, Datsun has shared a sketch of what we called the first Datsun (codenamed K2), which is expected to hit Indian shores by the end of this year. Yesterday, Nissan has shocked everyone with the pricing of its Nissan Micra Active i.e Rs. 3.5 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Now, after such an announcement, it is natural people will start guessing the price of the coming Datsun's low cost car. We try to figure out what could be the cost of the upcoming Datsun's hatchback on the basis of features, specifications and most importantly the company's vision for developing nations.

The first Datsun car (codenamed K2) will be based on the previous generation Micra's K12 platform, but it will come with an all-new styling and will sit below the Nissan's Micra Active. According to the company, the new car will be smaller in size, but will carry roomy interiors. To price it lower, Datsun K2 might lose out on features section, which comes as a standard in Micra, such as ABS, power windows, cup holders, LEd treatments and others.

Nissan aims to capture 10 per cent of the Indian market share, and for the same it bets on Datsun. The hatchback will be powered by the same 1.2-litre, three cylinder petrol engine, which also does duty in the Micra. There is no diesel version planned. The company claims that the first Datsun will offer best-in-class fuel economy. With Nissan Micra Active aggressive price of Rs. 3.5 Lakh, we could expect it to be priced under Rs. 3 lakh, which will directly position it in-front of Hyundai EON, Maruti Alto K10, and Chevrolet Spark.
