A weak opening on the cards

Trading of Nifty 50 index futures on the Singapore stock exchange indicates that the Nifty could fall 42 points at the opening bell.

Overseas, Asian stocks fell as investors continued to worry about an escalating exchange of trade and investment restrictions, triggered by the Trump administration. US stocks declined yesterday, 25 June 2018 as President Donald Trump's threats of more protectionism against major partners were met with Chinese and European vows of retaliation.

Back home,key benchmark indices logged modest losses yesterday, 25 June 2018 weighed by negative global stocks. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, fell 219.25 points or 0.61% to settle at 35,470.35. The Nifty 50 index fell 59.40 points or 0.55% to settle at 10,762.45.

The trading activity on that day showed that the foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 198.68 crore yesterday, 25 June 2018, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 86.22 crore yesterday, 25 June 2018, as per provisional data.
