Australia: Market gains 0.4%

Australian share market finished session higher on Monday, 09 April 2018, as strength in the health care and consumer staples sectors helping to soothe nervousness over an escalating US-China trade war. At the close, the S&P/ASX 200 index gained 0.4%, or 20 points, to 5,808.70, while the broader All Ordinaries index ended up 17.8 points at 5,904.7 points. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 601 to 585 and 377 ended unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.21% to 14.965.
